Support Your Local Community

Can you spare a couple of hours on a Sunday morning?

If you can, we would love to hear from you.

Volunteers are an integral to the smooth running of any event and we have many roles that without Marshals we could not continue.

As a RWL volunteer you will be part of a team that prides itself on keeping the people taking part and members of the public safe on the course.

The team also give lots of smiles and encouragement to everyone taking part which gives participants a real lift.

What you get in return?

You are joining a very friendly non-competitive community at Run Walk Local Portsmouth in which whatever role you undertake the participants really appreciate all that you do. You will share in their sense of achievement helping people of all abilities reach their goals no matter how big or small they are.

“The whole team of volunteers make all comers welcome.”

Roles Available

Volunteer coordinator

Making sure we have enough people each week so the event can safely continue.

Meet and greet

Welcoming new participants, showing them the course map and answering any questions they may have, whilst putting them at ease if they are a nervous first timer.

Course check and set up

Making sure the course is safe to proceed and putting up the signs at designated points across the course.

Static Marshals

Marshalling designated parts of the course making sure participants follow the route. Looking out for any hazards approaching such as cyclists, dog walkers and members of the general public who also use the path whilst out walking.

Bike Marshals

Cycle sections of the course making sure everyone is safe and responding to any problems that may occur.

Tail Walker

Staying with the last participant thus ensuring the course is clear and everyone has finished.

Full training will be provided for each role. We will also put you with one of our experienced marshals for a couple of weeks whilst you settle in.
You will be provided with a high viz tabard. A list of emergency contact numbers. A bag containing sterile gloves and a small bottle of hand sanitiser to use when needed.
Are you interested in volunteering with us? We promise you will not regret it as we want you to have as much fun as everyone else taking part. Nobody is expected to attend every week. Whatever you can give will be gratefully appreciated.
